Scottsdale-based Meritage Homes is including Wi-Fi smart home technology systems in its newly constructed homes.
The home automation suites includes Wi-Fi controlled lighting, thermostats, video door bells, smart locks and other systems. The goal is to be better linked to buyers smartphones.
C.R. Herro, vice president of environmental affairs for Meritage, said the smart home and automated systems will be standard with new homes. Herro said the key for Meritage’s new push is for the systems to be compatible with a range of technology and systems. “This is the Wild West for what is new,” said Herro stressing the openness and Cloud-based focus on the new effort. He said the system can work with Amazon’s Alexa, Clare, Nexia, Google Home, Vivint and others. Herro said the key is for the systems to also be adaptable for future consumer and buyer tastes.
