USAA plans to add 1,000 new technology jobs to its north Phoenix office between now and the end of 2020. The banking, investment and retirement products company has 4,500 local employees.
Phoenix will be the newest one of four sites for USAA’s chief technology and digital office, which encompasses the technology, data and analytics, innovation, digital experience and design departments.
Mike Pansini, USAA’s vice president of applications development, said the company will predominantly be hiring software engineers/applications developers. “We’re looking for T-shaped IT workers: people who can do front end, understand back end and everything in between,” said Pansini. “We want people who know Java and JavaScript and who can work in agile teams. We have a little bit of everything in tech available right now.”
USAA is hiring for entry level, right-out-of-college and experienced tech employees, from mid-level to senior level jobs, including IT managers and directors.
“We know Phoenix is a great area and has a great group of IT talent,” Pansini said. “We also plan on leveraging Phoenix to attract people to come to us. We’re taking advantage of space that’s located in a desirable area where we already have a big office. This is a great advantage to us. It’s a match made in heaven.”
Since USAA’s customers are 12.3 million current and former members of the U.S. military and their families, the company actively recruits veterans. Twenty percent of Phoenix employees are military vets or spouses.
